①To do something in advance (as preparation)

お客きゃくさんが来るから、部屋へやを片付けておきます。
(Guests are coming, so I will tidy up the room in advance.)

後あとで使つかうから、この資料しりょうをコピーしておきます。
(I will make copies of this document since I’ll use it later.)

旅行りょこうの前に、レストランを予約よやくしておきます。
(I will book the hotel in advance before the trip.)

後あとで晩ばんごはんを作るので、材料ざいりょうを切きっておきます。
(“Since I’ll be making dinner later, I’ll cut the ingredients in advance.”)

友達ともだちが来くるので、ビールを冷ひやしておきます。
(Since my friend is coming, I’ll chill the beer in advance.)

本屋ほんやに行く前に、読みたい本を調しらべておきます。
(Before going to the book store, I’ll check which books I want to read.)

明日は朝早く起おきるので、目覚めざまし時計どけいをかけておきます。
(Since I have to wake up early tomorrow, I’ll set an alarm in advance.)

ドアを開あけておきますね。
(I will keep the door open for you.)

電気でんきをつけておきますか？
(Shall I leave the lights on?)

ビールは冷蔵庫れいぞうこに入れておいてください。
(Please put the beer in the fridge and leave it there.)

資料しりょうは机つくえの上に置おいておきました。
(I left the documents on the desk.)

暑あついですから、エアコンをつけたままにしておいてください。
(It is hot so please leave the air conditioner on.)

雨が降ふりそうですから、窓まどを閉しめておいてください。
(Please keep the window closed because it looks like it might rain.)
